Purchased an 18tb external drive with an Exos drive. Shucked and drive just failed 4 months later. No warranty of course.

Beware! These drives do not have the middle set of mounting holes on the sides.

Nothing wrong with Seagate, as long as it's not their consumer drives.

The Skyhawk line, however, focuses more on continuous writes rather than reads. You probably won't notice if you're just using them to download content, but they wouldn't be as good for hosting a database, for instance.

At this price, there's no reason not to put them on RAID.

yes and it's super freakin easy to put the drive back into the enclosure and send it in for RMA.

May just be a rhetorical question on your part, but if not, well

• Because you don't have enough storage space for all those chucked hulls
• Because you broke a bunch of tabs when chucking and think it may not go together ever again
• Because you don't think the drive will fail prematurely
• etc et nauseam

All that said, yes, of course one should keep the shell until warranty end.

I'll buy 10 if it's under $80 each.

Better yet 14tb should be $80. I take 20 at this price point.

have you tried to just send it in? i got a shucked drive replaced, they even sent the same item in a new shell and evereything

Okay I know I haven't been looking at HDD prices lately but can someone confirm if the prices this guy is trying to find stuff at pie in the sky or actually achievable?
