Got this open box at Best Buy for $500. I normally do not like processing enabled on my audio equipment but I really like the Spatial 360 that Sony does for movies. I'd def recommend checking it out.

What does the spatial 360 do for movies that already have a surround sound audio track?

He means VIRTUAL surround sound, in case you don't have physical surround sound speakers.
I also have this receiver and I like the virtual speaker height. My speakes are at ear level but the tv is higher up above the fireplace. I specified the heights of the speakers and of the tv and it TRULLY sounds like the audio is coming from the tv. I don't know how they do it, but I have to walk up right to the speaker to be convinced that the sound is coming out of the speaker and not the tv.

I did, you wont get lesser than this in near future, and Sony does not release new model every year, so we will get the update for the next 5 years Smilie

There's the refurb Denon S760H now for $225. Dilemma.

Sony will blow that entry Denon miles away, Denon S760H is comparable with Sony DH790

Highly doubtful. I would get the Sony just because it's newer and has more modern features, but in terms of components used they're likely on a similar level.

I just ordered the Onkyo tx-nr7100 (https://dealquestnow.online/f/17286532-onkyo-tx-nr7100-9-2-channel-8k-4k-network-a-v-receiver-549-free-shipping) after hearing everyone rave about dirac. Any thoughts on how this Sony AVR compares? I have a 5.1.2 system Emotiva T1+/C2+/A1 setup and have no plans of expanding so I don't need those two extra channels.

I'm switching from the Yamaha TSR700 that's been acting up. I'm fairly satisfied with the TSR700 except I don't feel like I'm getting much out of the height speakers as I'd hoped.

Its a good deal under $400! Now just need a nice 7.1 system to pair this with.

For clarification, the power is 100watts/channel in stereo, so you can expect lower output per channel in surround (Sony didn't post an "all channels driven" spec). Should still be adequate power for a majority of users.

Actual, I did mean surround to the person who said I was talking about virtual surround from a 2.0 setup… I have a 5.1 setup but Sonys processing somehow seems to provide more "body " to the surround .. it sounds like I have more speakers than I do. You can google "Sony 360 Spatial Mapping". My wife commented immediately that the sound was much better than our older Onkyo TXRZ610.

Edit:
Andrew Robinson on YouTube reviewed this model and had quite a bit to say about the Sonys processing . Would give a more professional opinion.

Thanks for mentioning this! $385 in "Excellent" condition made me finally bite. I've been wanting to grab a new Receiver for a few years now and suddenly I have this and likely the LG G3 coming about the same time. It's gonna be a hell of an upgrade all around!

Curious on the components used part, is that a hunch or you know for a fact?
