Sony seems to be underrated receivers compared to denon. Any inputs on the ES series receivers 3000, 5000, 7000 compare to the high ends from Denon and Yamaha?

I don't know about their AVRs but their integrated amps are pretty good.

ES series is the only Sony receiver I would even consider.

I have one of these which I bought open box in like new condition a few years back from BB. I think I paid something like $400. Anyway, they are very good receivers. My only issue with this one is that it doesn't support 7.2.2. if you are looking to do 7.2 or a 5.1.2, then no problem. Consider something else if you maybe planning to expand in the future.
This is a very inexpensive solution in comparison to other receivers at this price range.

I bought one of these about a month ago and returned it.
My other receiver is a Denon X3800H with Dirac Live. I've also experimented with the A1 Evo Acoustica (free) room correction. The difference in performance between the Sony room correction and either of these is absolutely massive. I know the x3800h is way more expensive but there's just no way I would choose this over a comparatively priced Onkyo or Pioneer with Dirac Live included. Or a cheap Denon that supports the A1 Evo Acoustica.
I bought the Sony because I was really excited about the 360 Spatial Sound Mapping. While it was interesting, it didn't come close to making up the gap in the room correction.

It comes down to whether you prefer Sony & their new RC works for you imo.
Common complaint, the lack of versatility with it.

If this is a blind buy on a budget, the Integra DRX3.4 for $569 is hard to beat imo.

Is it the same as this one? https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/sony-ta-an1000
If i were to deduce from the review you linked, where they mentioned "having discussed the differences with Sony", I'd also say no, they're very likely not the same.

However, there is the equivalent STR-AN1000 AV receiver for sale in the States which retails for around $900. While the STR-AN1000 shares a similar name and general price point with the TA-AN1000 model, we haven't tested it and therefore can't say for sure if the performance is exactly the same between these two models, but having discussed the differences with Sony, we suspect not.
