I've been using this router since March 2025. Had 1 problem with the router (one of the CPU cores sticking to 100 percent) which was fixed via firmware released on the same week I purchased the router. I have had no other issues since then. Switched over to Merlin firmware about 2 weeks ago.

I have about 20 devices running on the router on all 3 bands. Router is connected to the internet via 1 gig fiber. Performance has been excellent.

The more expensive routers usually support 4 streams, but I don't know of any client devices that support more than two so personally I don't see a huge benefit in my usage to go all out on one of those high end routers. Your usage may be different.

I helped a few friends and family with orbi and none of them have been happy with it, I've tried AI mesh and had issues but it was years ago I tried it so maybe it's better now. If you can run a wired backhaul then two of these will give you a lot more range and a stable connection between them.

I'm currently running two rt-ax86u and looking at possibly upgrading to this router but the reviews aren't inspiring at the moment, but some say beta firmware has fixed the issues.

Do you have Wi-Fi-7-compatible devices? How do you use WiFi 7 on older devices?

This or the ax86u Pro for $160? Current setup is ac86u which has been solid until the past few months. I think an electrical surge messed it up, as I no longer get download speeds any higher than 125mb/s with a 1 gig plan.

I have ~ 20 devices, which most will only utilize wireless and I don't have any wifi 7 devices.

I have an older model BUT the Asus mesh setup has been quick and flawless for us.
2 routers will give you more consistent top speed in every corner of your house vs 1 $500 router. These super high speed signals drop a decent amount with every wall, closet, ect.

Bought this a couple weeks ago. First thing I did was update to the latest firmware and factory reset the router (multiple times) and could not get the wifi to stop dropping every few hours. I experimented with turning on/off every possible feature and it'd still drop for some minutes every few hours. Didn't realize how stressed out this router made me until I returned it and bought a different one that never has me worrying about whether wifi would go down.

I have two ax86u and they have been great but they are old at this point. Personally I wouldn't spend $170 to be outdated out of the box.

Been using it for a month, it's a good router for the price. Range is decent, it covers my 1500sq ft apartment without issues.

The only issue (non router related) I had was my NVIDIA shield pro would not connect if you have WiFi 7 enabled. I had to enable 5Ghz in the IoT network and it connected.
