If you have the CVS app, the Extrabucks will appear in your account after purchase and can be loaded to your card or phone number just like a coupon, meaning that you won't need to keep the receipt coupon that prints out after purchase.

The gift cards that I've bought don't say anything about prescriptions on the card or the paper board, but Walgreens and (RIP) Rite Aid do exclude gift cards as acceptable tender for paying for prescriptions, probably because Walgreens routinely gives out their own GC as bonuses when buying third-party GC.
Makes me wonder if CVS is planning to revise their GC policy to exclude prescriptions, as buying a CVS GC solely for prescriptions and earning Extrabucks on it can't be profitable for them.

Buy regular stuff that's on sale -- they have some $1.99 cereals
You can use the ad search box for "gift" -- in Illinois it shows up closer to the end of the ad (2nd to last section)
No problem getting $10 back on $50 CVS GC purchase -- grabbed 6x $1.99 boxes of cereal afterwards to use it up
