The S2 pro controller can remotely wake up the S2 while the S1 cannot. There are also little added features and adjustments like the G buttons on the back of the grips that can be programmed as shortcuts, an added c button on the center bottom of the controller for chat, and raise buttons for better overall feel. Otherwise, it's the same as the S1.

They're also much cheaper if you check Ebay for them instead of your local video game store; there are a lot of import resellers who snagged hundreds of Japanese-packaging (but region-free) Pro controllers before 2025 and they're currently being unloaded at $38-40 each, brand-new, with free shipping, regardless of whether they're the standard Pro controller or one of the limited-edition designs that were tied to a specific game.
In your experience, would the pro controller allow me to use gyroscope controls for the Zelda shrines that require using a controller tilt functions?
Check out r/Controllers - there's countless other options out there.
