It's been a while, but I had the 5200, and I think I have some of the games still, will this not play those?

Any mods to make it play all of the games?

Thank you!

That page doesn't talk about the 5200 at all, maybe there was a big change between them..

One of my favorite games was minor 2049er, I don't see it on their list either, maybe it was just a 5200 game.

5200 cartridges are twice the size of 7800 carts width wise. 2600 carts are the same width as 7800. You can play 2600 games on a 7800 because of this but if you want to play 5200 you're out of luckx granted if you had a 5200 you'd still be out of luck as the controllers were garbage and most no longer work correctly or at all for that matter unless you updated to wico sticks.

Gotcha thanks, Do you think the ROMs were bigger also? 😂 If they've got firmware to let you play directly, without the cartridge, it would be nice to get the 5200 games. May already have them 🤔 just love this console look, and not in an arcade machine

The roms are essentially nothing like literal KBs. I'd think the whole library of 5200 games is probably 20mb if that. If I recall correctly I think there was something like 75 5200 games. And 7800 shares a lot of the same games as 5200 as well. Graphically 52/7800 are nearly identical.

2049er was also released on the 2600 so that will play. Atari also released a new game for the 7800 called Bounty Bob Strikes Back which is a sequal to miner 2049er. Its a really great game, Highly recommended. The pack-in Crystal Quest is great too. As others mentioned, 5200 carts are not compatible but 2600 and 7800 are.
Also note that firmware updates are available, but you need a windows computer for the update.

That's right, I forgot about bounty Bob 😂
The problem with the 2600 version of minor 2049er if I remember correctly, it was terrible graphics, where the 5200 played and looked much better.. but I could be off in my 25 to 35 years 😆

I havent tried myself. Ive heard if you have a multi-cart you can load one game at a time one it and play roms that way. If you put more than one game on it, it will fail.

Yes, 2600 has the worst graphics with each later model having the benefit of more ram/rom available and getting a better look. Ive never owned a 5200, but the 7800 is comparable with the NES. The 2600 games mostly used 4kb of data. Its amazing there was anything to play with that amount of storage.
If i could post pictures of the two games I would. For what the game is the graphics doesnt bother me, the game play and challenge is what keeps me coming back.
