I haven't really bought any of these in quite a while since Amazon decided to leave the premium tablet space, and only purchased a couple of the budget kid ones about five years ago, but I remember them being pretty slow and unbearable to use after a while, especially compared to a Samsung or Lenovo with an IPS screen for a few bucks more. How are they these days?

Slow but great for certain use cases like Amazon ecosystem or sideloading Google play and certain apps work well. Not good enough for recent games but useful for movies, comics reading, and general multi media. Would not recommend for productivity or gaming.
