That seems very reductive.

It had a lot of really fresh and new elements being explored in a unique way. It's nice to have new ideas in the sequel-heavy film world.

I thought this movie was very overrated. It had entertaining moments, but it definitely wasn't Best Picture worthy in my opinion. It just happened to come out at exactly the right time when Asian films and culture were booming.

That seems very reductive.

I could not have been any more moronically stupid than Accountant II?
Nothing is quite that bad. Anybody that bought Ben Affleck as a high functioning autistic really needs to lay off the drugs.

Haven't seen Accountant 2 yet but Accountant 1 was a far better film then Everything Everywhere is. Everything Everywhere was truly terrible. Bought it on 4k based on the reviews and it is perhaps the most overrated movie I've ever seen. It isn't the worst film I've ever seen, but it was awful and I sat through it only because I bought the 4K physical and the reviews were so glowing I figured maybe at the every end they were going to announce the whole film was a scam and the joke is on Hollywood and that would have raised the rating.
Never redeemed the digital code because I didn't want it showing up in my collection. I need to list the whole package on eBay to rid my life of that trash.
I also hate the MCU and other mindless trash and my collection is much more into Criterion and golden age of cinema stuff so art films are something I enjoy but this wasn't good art.

I agree!! Worst movie ever!!! I gave in to the hype and just like you biught the 4K disc. Can not believe I wasted 2+ hours of my life watching that garbage!! If anyone wants the 4K along with the code as it comes, it has only been watched once, I can sell it. Shoot me a message!

Like... the cinema and critic establishment could have bad taste, or random yahoos on a deal forum could have bad taste. I wonder which it is?

Not to be reductive.

What "fresh and new" elements? I find everything they did to be quite unoriginal and uninspired. The multiverse is probably the most overused idea of all-time and the use of this idea jumped the shark about 5 years ago.
Multiverse being a common thing is only true if you're an avid superhero comic reader where it's definitely been thrown around quite a bit and almost all of the multiverse movies happen to be based on the related IPs. Not only did Everything have nothing to do with those IPs but it arguably did the best job of exploring the multiverse concept.

Yeah it isn't a common thing because if it was it wouldn't be novel and this not worth talking about.
However it has been used in films for decades. It's a wonderful life, back to the future, the matrix, groundhog day, the lion the witch and the wardrobe. These are all everyone knows them films not just some obscure indie film or a lame comic book.
The film wasn't any good and the recognition it received was all virtue signaling.
