Good deal if you are looking for a $5k Les Paul. But it's more than I can afford.

There's a reason i'm on this platform… i'm poor. You don't have to keep reminding me with guitars like these.

I estimate that after all the baby boomers are gone, the "vintage" guitars including Gibson 50s reissue will go down in value drastically. I recommend Jim Lill's video on tonewood. Days are gone where guitar manufactures can BS their way to jack up their prices for "vintage tone."
Good craftmanship is good craftmanship, though. Try on a guitar that you looks appealing to you and see whether it feels good in your hands, that's about it.

A genuine Custom Shop '58 reissue. Definitely one of the Holy Grail guitars of all time. Folks who don't like it, well, that's up to them. Definitely a great deal and there's a few to choose from on their website. Gibson is making the most accurate reissues they ever have and these are guitars that you can get as a young person and keep for your whole life. I've played guitar for over 50 years and I have owned all kinds of Les Pauls and other guitars. One thing I learned is that don't buy a guitar to impress other people. Buy a guitar that you like and that you will play. I play several hours a week and have been playing for a while. As far as value, I think if you take care of it you should be fine if you want to sell. But it's better to keep forever and let it outlive you and pass it on to your family or friends

I'm genuinely curious why these are THIS expensive. Like, I'm sure there are other brands that make guitars in the USA, custom shop hand crafted. And I respect the cost of craftsmanship. But I don't understand why a Gibson feels like a supreme or Gucci or like, a Rolex.

Its thier premium line....they use the best woods (usually significantly lighter and more resonant), better finish, better q.c., etc...

I've gone through a bunch of historics and customs throughout the years and can confidently say they are better in every way vs the standard line. Are they worth anywhere near 2x-3x the price? Hell no, imo

You are basically paying for the name just like the rolex and Gucci you mentioned when there are comparable guitars for less like knaggs, heritage, and even eastman. But personally I take resale value into heavy consideration when buying and the historic series does really well in that department

I have a hard time distinguishing between a Trad Pro, Classic, and a Standard if it weren't for the truss rod cover. I haven't handled one of these, but I think it would look and feel like other Les Pauls. Funny to see people commenting on resonance when the whole point of using the hardest, densest wood was to keep it from resonating..

This is just a reminder that if you're planning to grab this deal. You have to make it sure that this is the guitar that you want, because there is NO RETURN ON SALE item with EGs. You dont wanna end up losing $3700.

I had never looked at EG before, and dang they have great photos of the guitars. Sweetwater has been one of my favs because of their standard set of photos, but EG goes ham with the glamor shots, they get great angles for the tops, fretboard, etc. Maybe a bit TOO glamor shotty, it looks like they use a bit of sharpening, up the saturation, etc., but not sure on that, maybe the photos are just that good.

As far as this deal, it is a great deal for R8s, but looking through the list, none of the tops really jumped out me, but maybe they are supposed to be that way for this line. I am a sucker for a quilt top, or even just decent flaming, but there are only a few that seem to have any, and I am not really a fan of the tops being so obviously two piece with unmatched pieces. That might be traditional/historically accurate, but it really sticks out to me. If spending over four grand after tax, I want my pick to be really pretty in my eyes, can get most of the other features that are more about playability for much less $$.

I just bought a Gibson Les Paul Custom white with the gold hardware for $6,000. And the one thing I can pass along from my experience is that .. I'm not sure an electric guitar is worth $6,000. And you can continue that thought for yourself all the way down to these. I've played these and it bothered me the way the back looked so radically different than the top. It looks .. kinda fake .. kinda like .. two different guitars were mated together. Or something.

If I was gonna spend $3,800 dollars on a guitar, it would be an acoustic guitar without a pickup. There really is a difference there, you can really hear it.

But as guys have pointed out in this thread, there are many fabulous guitar brands being made today. And it matters so very much for an electric guitar that you have the right amp. And these days, the effects that are available are .. shocking. So, you take all that in to account and ..

.. I consider myself pretty stupid for spending $6k on that Les Paul on the wall over there.

I play a 1984 Flying V so .. I don't even touch that Custom. I put it on a recording and I'm like, "Yeah, see it sounds like a Gibson. I have one of those already."

When you invest significant money like this, diversify your arsenal of sounds. Like sockets in a toolbox, get a diverse amount of tools for a variety of sounds and don't double up.
