Then you must know about the hardware defect. I wouldn't buy any 13th and 14th gen Intel cpuSupposedly a microcode fixes it but I don't think any software fix could fix a hardware problem...
It's not a hardware problem, it's a voltage delivery problem. Fixed fully by a software update. New 13th and 14th gen CPUs are fine if you upgrade BIOS. Used market for these chips should be approached with caution.

If you are already on this gen intel board, then yes. If building new, then no. This is slower than a 5700x3d/5800x3d which is two gens old at this point. Just look into it before you buy. But if I was on a slower cpu on an intel board I would jump on this. 5 year warranty from intel.

Worth upgrading from i7-12700k?
I would consider the two processors to be very similar. (12700k vs 14600k)

I only base my opinions on gaming performance. Both chips trade spots on which is faster when gaming. In just non gaming performance then yeah, the intel is faster. So, if you need a PC to do anything other than gaming, then buy this.

Is it basically that as long as you are running latest bios update that it won't affect the 14th gen CPU?
Yes. The issue has been fixed in that regard.

Maybe it's just me but I tried to order two and the order was immediately canceled. I then tried to just order one and it was also canceled. I was going to upgrade my proxmox cluster, bummed will wait for the next sale.
Worked fine for me just now

Slower in gaming maybe, which is obviously the only use for computers

it's not fully fixed but rather ''mitigated'' by lowering performance.

Why I've yet to upgrade from my 4770k 2013 work system. I need stability more than I need anything else. 🥲

Sweet! Tacked on a Z790 DDR4 board during the NewEgg deal for $68 (added in with a new build I was doing) to do a cheap upgrade on our VR 7700k. $232 to go from a 7700k 3070 build to a 14600k 3070 should make a pretty big difference 🤣

Any variation of the Thermalright Peerless Assassin or Phantom Spirit 120 would work well, which are hoving in the $35-$40 range:
(But man I hate how many different versions of basically the same cooler Thermalright makes)

Personally, I got the ARCTIC Freezer 36, when it briefly dipped below $40. The above air coolers scored better overall, but wanted something a bit more compact, like that the Arctic comes with an intel (anti-bending) mounting bracket, and is supposed to perform well particularly on an intel.

Thanks, I'll look into the Arctic freezer. Prefer something compact.
