Have the OpenRun, OpenRun Pro and the OpenRun Pro 2. While I vastly prefer the Pro 2's, I don't know if they're worth the extra $80 (at this time) over the Pro's. I absolutely love Shokz headphones and though the sound quality isn't great, the battery life lasts me all day and I can easily pause or listen to music while working with others, in the store and out and about and not have to ever take them out of my ears/off my head.

The pro 2 is totally worth it over the pros if for no other reason than the usb-c charger vs that terrible proprietary 2ft long magnetic charger cable the original pro uses.

I would personally wait for a sale on the 2 unless there's an immediate need as these go on sale frequently at this price. The 2s have already popped up a few times for $150. If the originals ever drop to ~70 then I'd say definitely get them over 2.

Not disagreeing the pro 2's are worth it. But i wouldn't say they're worth it for just USB-C. Yea, having another different cable is annoying, but the magnetic cable is also a little more convenient for easily snapping the headphones on (especially because i believe Pro 2 has a silicone cover to open over the port). With how much I use mine I actually like the magnetic cable. Of course I would be fine swapping to USB-C but its no where near an $80 selling point to me

However Pro 2's also have 2 extra hrs battery life, faster quick charge, and the sound improvements/reduced vibration seems pretty substantial from what ive read

I am not at all a fan of the OpenRun Pro 2's "air conduction" (lmao it's just a pair of open back speakers). After having it for a month I actually went back to the OpenRun Pro. The sound leakage was way too much and it was just less immersive as now I could tell that significant amounts of sound was coming from those drivers instead of pure bone conduction where the sound was just kind of omnipresent. Yes, the Pro 2's had better low end response, but at the cost of everything I bought the Shokz for in the first place.
I wish they would make a new flagship line of pure bone conduction to be sold alongside this hybrid solution. I realize some people actually like the hybrid, but I and my wife definitely do not, so this deal is awesome as I was looking to get another set of Pro 1's before they all disappear (they're seemingly disappearing from the Shokz website, so I imagine they're going to wind down production).

Are there any alternatives to Shokz bone conduction. Shokz seems overpriced. Any other reliable brand for bone conduction headphones

I would not buy the Pro. Or the Open Fit. Go for the Pro 2s or Open Fit 2. When it's on sale. I think it's wild they want $180 for something they seem to improve on a yearly schedule.

I'll note that the range on the Pro 2's is MUCH worse than all their other headphones. I'm having them cut out about 20 feet where I feel like the last pairs were over 50 feet.

On the 29th, Costco will have the SE's for $75. https://dealquestnow.online/f/18066418
That said you can find random knockoffs on Amazon for $30-50.

I believe the boost mode for louder volume is a hybrid mode right? Or am I wrong there?

The Pro's were announced January 2022 while the Pro 2's August 2024. A 2.5 year gap between releases I'd say is too long of a wait.

You can get an adaptor so you can use any charging usb-c cable to connect to the magnetic. USB ports are a weak spot on devices, especially when they are used to charge

Yes, I did that for a while, but then I realized I was paying more for stuff I was literally never using, and it seemed like the Pro 1 was just better at pure bone conduction than the Pro 2, which was kind of weird since I imagined the Pro 2 to use the same bone conduction tech as the Pro 1, just with it equalized down so that the air conduction would take over more on the low end (especially at high volumes). I don't really see any reviewers exploring this though and I don't have the Pro 2 to do it myself unfortunately. And as Eragon above mentioned, for some reason the range is way worse on the Pro 2.

Which is better for making phone calls? Pro or Pro 2? Are the mics any good?

There are other brands, but the quality ones all seem to be in the same price range. I had the original Aftershokz Airs and moved to the OpenRun (non-pro) and have had a great experience so far. I made two warranty claims and they didn't cost many anything and completely swapped the parts (and in one case, let me keep the old pair).

I'm considering the Pro or Pro 2, but I do like the higher water resistance of the non-Pro OpenRuns (IP67 vs IP55 for the Pro, not sure about the Pro 2). With that said, I'll likely upgrade to the Pro 2 or Swim 2 at some point this year.

The mics are fine. I don't know which is better tbh.

Funny, I tested the Pro 2s and returned them. Not worth the price tag. I like the magnetic charge port better than the USB C which will get worn overtime and no longer work...
