Good price on this unit if you can get past the cyclops appearance. I can't and am still waiting on its replacement to arrive....long overdue since this guy was announced in 2020.

To be fair it wasn't released until mid 2021 and everyone experienced delays back then.
If you're a Yamaha fan this is the sweet spot, since the majority of people don't use more than 9 channels or support more than 11 properly.

Kinda empathize with you on the cyclops aesthetics, my annoyance with Marantz porthole aesthetics.

I've enjoyed this AVR. Originally purchased when I had a 5.1 setup . Plenty of power with eco mode off . HOWEVER, at 7 channels the power starts to drop due to safety features built into the system. I've since upgraded to a 5.4.1 and while watching movies it's still enough power but I listen to a lot of music at loud volumes and our floor plan is a pretty open area . I ended up purchasing an external amp to increase power and take some load off of the AVR. Looking back I think I would have gone with something different to avoid the external amp but I've been very happy with this AVR. It's heavy . Keep that in mind if you have a mediocre shelving system.

More info below if interested in lots of other data . Some of it I found useful while others were too far in depth for what my ears can notice .

This is a really good deal. I have this and paid 2k in 2021 when it came out. You won't find anything this good at this price range right now. I recommend you to use an external amp to at least connect the front L/R to it and use the XLR inputs to hook it up. The sound is night and day vs using RCA connections on the front L/R channels.

Even after spending $1300 if you still feel need to drop another 700 on an external amp, what's the point of getting this?

Will this do HDR pass through for gaming? I have my Denon from 2019 and I have to use ARC to get full performance out of my Xbox

Yes, this receiver correctly passes HDMI 2.1 to a compatible TV.

Closest would be the X4800. Yahama has more power. Denon has better room correction options and 4 independent sub outputs vs 2 on the Yamaha.

Can I use this to power Focal Vestia No4. Just L and R two front channels. These Vestias have nominal impedance of 8ohm but minimal 2.8ohm. Thanks.

Denon doesn't have a 9 channel 150 watt AVR so if you're gonna be dependent on internal power neither one compares.

Both 3 & 4 can process 11 channels, has preouts, all 11 have independent preamp mode, better/premium RC included, option for another premium RC in Dirac and 4 independent sub outs vs 2 parallel/mono ones.

If you use or plan to use an external amp and not all your speakers are full range/reference.
Unlikely you would hear a difference between the 3 vs 4 in my experience.

Ignoring channel count, in terms of raw power, this A6A is closer to the 6800 (according to Audioholics bench testing). Unfortunately, the same Audioholics bench test also highlighted that w/7 channels driven, Yamaha artificially limits power output via software to 52W into 8 ohms (even at 0.1% THD+N)! The 6800 happily goes on to 118W/CH for 7 channels to 0.1% THD+N in the same 1kHz Psweep (whether you need it or not)!

For 99% of people, this won't be an issue. However, if you have a dedicated home theater w/speakers > 20 ft away and/or working w/low impedance speakers during a transient 95dB+ scene, then it's not going to sound nice due to power limiting (a nominal 4 ohm speaker 20 ft away needs at least 74W)!

The lack of attractive room correction and power limiting may be why this Yamaha is getting decent discounting.

Denon X4800 would be a comparison to this
