Finally pulled the trigger on this after waiting for months. Have a decent B550 system to rebuild. Also got some cheapish G.Skill 2x16GB 4400CL19 non b-die ram that will need to be manual clocked for it.

i don't think those who is looking at 5000 series are looking at the next gen. and if you are in the market for next gen, you aren't interested in previous gen socket regardless of the price.

I have a b450, it's am4 and does not recognize this cpu. I'm not sure if only the 550 boards can run this or if asus just stopped supporting that board before this was released. Still a good cpu, I don't feel the need to upgrade at all.

edit: I was curious, there are b450 boards that can run these. Check your motherboards list of compatible cpus.

was the ram bin on a discount? why would you purchase that speed at that latency, in non b-die for AM4? it's not like the platform had a ton of tuning room to begin with.

i went with a 4000c14 kit and called it a day. of course the chip would only boot with ram set at 3900 but whatever...

without looking into this at all i imagine it's your bios. update it if the mobo manufacturer provides one.

lol i assumed u didnt look at the QVL list if the ram was compatible to begin with? i did that with my 3rd set of ram which was a Gskill 4400cl19. i was lucky enough that it even booted.

I already have an older 4000CL19 2x16gb b-die in another machine that was quite expensive when I bought it years ago, like $300. There was no more G.Skill 2x16gb b-die on newegg this afternoon sold by newegg, the kit I got was $85. We'll see how it runs.

I could put the new kit in the other machine (MSI Z790, 13700K) and try the old b-die on the B550 board with the 5900X. The new kit actually has my Z790 MB on the QVL.

Regardless, it was the highest bin available for a reasonable price and I'll have to clock/time it or my b-die manually on the B550. And I wasn't going to buy another $200+ ram set for a build with parts I already have on hand.

i've been doing this for years. qvl is a short list of bins the manufacturer has tested, not an exhaustive list of every bin.

at my stage it's pointless to even consult a qvl.

edit - perhaps i shouldn't say bin vs kit. i dunno, whatever you prefer. i'm sure you get the idea if you dance with RAM kits.

Currently running a Ryzen 5 5600X, if I upgrade to this one, am I going to see a difference in performance? (C#, blazor, SQL developer, some War Thunder gaming)
Also, 65W vs 105W
Thanks

I did look into this further, it appears to be a single rank 2x16gb kit and can potentially play well with Ryzen:
