I almost pulled the trigger on one of these during a prior sale, but all the reviewers that described theirs dying within a year convinced me to go with AAWireless [aawireless.io] instead. I've been happy with that decision, but it's only been a few months. I know version 2 is coming later this year, but you can get the version 1 right now for $59.49 (15% off normal price.) I'm in no way affiliated with them, just letting you know my reasoning.
I bought one of these for my Mazda, also tested on my friend's Hyundai. It disconnected constantly on both, multiple times each drive. We both ended up getting Carlinkit 5.0 units, and have not had a single disconnect in the past few months with the latest firmware update.

Another friend has AAWireless and hasn't had a single disconnect either.
Every time a deal on this thing pops up I'm tempted to jump on it, but I don't really mind plugging the cable into the phone.

I agree, I have gone through 3 since their release a few years ago, idk if it's the FL heat in the summers that kill them but they should be made better as other electronics in car do just fine. They work great when new for a few months but then just start disconnecting and then completely die. I was looking at CarlinkKit but that seems even worse based on Amazon reviews so now I'm not sure. AA wireless may be the right choice...

I use this in my 2023 mazda3 and have mostly good things to say.

Maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks I have a connection issue where my Bluetooth doesn't fully connect with the Mazda causing the Android Auto not to properly connect. A little annoying ngl, but it's a simple issue that only takes a few seconds to remedy.

I personally use this for my Android, it does the job but essentially kills entire phone battery after an hour or two 🥲..

There's also a Carlinkit for $35 deal going on my other post if you want a budget option or CP functionality.

The advantage isn't that you're not having to plug the cable in, it's more that you're not having to have your phone on charge constantly, slowly degrading the battery. It would be great if Android/iOS would add an option for "CarPlay Only/No Charging"

My Samsung phone allows me to stop charging at 85%, I understand newer models (S24) are even more flexible in that respect.

Will this work if you have a newer dumb car with a basic screen?

One thing I don't like about this one compared to AA Wireless is that it has no companion app or way to change any settings on it.

For example, Hyundai does not completely disconnect the AA whenever you shut the car off, so this causes weird behavior when it comes to phone calls because they do not disconnect when you shut the car off. With AA wireless you can fix this with the app; you cannot with the MA1

Anyone who's using a different one - do those make your phone hot as the sun in your pocket like this one does on my Pixel? I like the convenience but don't like things cooking down there.

No, this only makes Android Auto work wirelessly, it doesn't add Android Auto.

My Android phone does not come with built-in Android Auto and my car does not support Android Auto if it is not a built-in feature on the phone. Can I use this product to circumvent this limitation?

I've had AAWireless since their kickstarter days, I'm still using it today. No issues with AAWireless
