You don't use this with a soundbar. Soundbars power themselves and don't need receivers.

Years ago I built a 7.1 system with an Onkyo receiver. I LOVED IT, but at the time, there were very few movie titles which were native 7.1. I've been out of the home entertainment game for about 10 years now... if I build a 9.2 or some derivation with ATMOS, is there a fairly large library of new streaming releases which have the native sound to push it?

Yes very large, even streaming is mostly in atmos now
But beware most streaming devices don't support Atmos across all major streaming services. Newest top-end Apple TV and Fire Cube 3 are pretty good at it. Shield is (somehow) still the best.

Welllll. Had my mind set on a Denon X3800H(+dirac upgrade) for an upgrade to my 2016 Denon S920W, but guess now i'm trying out Onkyo. Just saved myself hopefully about $750.
There's a deal for the x3800h right now at around $939. It's posted on slickdeals. I've been waiting for that one, too. How do these compare? The x3800h looks really good… Someone reputable mentioned they though Adorama would have a similar deal on Friday or Monday…

I wish they would put preouts on these things, so we can add an amplifier. The Denon X series have them but then the price goes way up to basically get the same thing, just with preouts. I keep using the Russound ADP-123 speaker to line-level adapter. It works but then I have these ugly looking adapters hanging off the receiver in the back

If you don't need preout and independent subs is there a reason not to buy this vs denon 3800h? This is like half the price of denon 3800h. For a small (14*18) home theater room.

This is a good price for a 9.2 quality amp. I have the Onkyo 6050 and it has worked really well for me powering 7.1 speaker setup. This one is pretty tempting.

Adorama dropped the open box prices on the the 3800 by $100 (980 to 880). So it's a fair guess that the new should touch sub 900 in the next few days.

I'm between this and the Denon x1700h. This feels like so much more for the money. I'm nervous about the quality of Onkyo.

In for one. I just don't see anything else with this kind of wattage, 9.2 channel, and the 4K120 HDMI ports at this price point. Fingers crossed that I get a good one!

Need input from audiophiles or anyone with good knowledge of Onkyos...

I have an Onkyo RZ710 from about 7(?) years ago running in a 5.1.2 setup with decent speakers.

I love Atmos and watching anything and everything in surround sound, including my morning news (you know what I mean).

Any need to upgrade from the RZ710 to this NR7100, when my RZ has never given me any problems or issues?

I feed audio either through my HTPC or through Firestick 4k Max, both of which seem to handle Atmos on Netflix and other streaming apps just fine. (Also have the Panasonic UB820-K which plays nice with the Onkyo!)

Don't need a reason to abandon the RZ unless there's a world of difference!

Thanks in advance and happy Thanksgiving everyone!

You're not missing anything unless you had plans to buy the extremely expensive Dirac upgrades ($300 for Dirac Full Range, $500 for Bass Management, and another $500+ for ART and/or Spacial if they ever come to Denon's current models which is questionable at best). $529 for 9 channels with full range Dirac is the AVR steal of the decade.

They are made by the same company and are nearly identical in features and performance.

Depends on your expectations but those are two of the big differences most are after.
As you can tell just in this thread Dirac Live is thee biggest selling point for this.

Keep in mind this only includes Dirac Live so you get no sub/bass RC integration with it.

As people keep mentioning Dirac being so great, yes BOTH Dirac Live & Dirac Live Bass Control
Bass integration is a key component in an optimal setup and Dirac's is pretty good.

The 3800 will get the DLBC option this coming year, you will not get it with this receiver.
ART is all a rumor at this point and DLBC is required.

The 3800 includes XT32 RC which is always the RC that Dirac always gets compared to.
It's a pretty good RC itself and you don't lose sub/bass integration. You actually gain a new one called directional integration.

Here are the rest of the differences of the two.

I used Denon for years, then got this model Onkyo. Sad to say, it stopped working after 11 months. Then they made us take to repair shop that couldn't get parts for over six weeks. Finally, they sent us a refurbished that is not working.

Truly hope you have better luck than us! Hopefully they make it right, been dealing with this since September!
That is the luck of the draw sometimes with these products, it seems
I have owned many Denon products that had to sent in for repair and/ or replaced

Just a few months ago Denon/Marantz replaced a Marantz 7015 that was sent in for repair and it came back still broken
The refurbished unit they replaced it with is working ..thank goodness...but there was 6 weeks of frustration involved with that

Agreed ..plus the price of the required calibration mic that the Denon does not include. There been no date as to when Denon/Marantz will offer the multi sub bass management and absolutely nothing on if/when ART will be an option.
