This uses a 12v DC input, meaning it has a external power brick. Not sure I've seen that for a full size video disc player before.

Also note that it only has a single HDMI output, which could be a limitation if you use an older AV receiver. Many UHD blu ray players have dual HDMI outputs so that you can send the full UHD HDR signal directly to the TV, and the full quality digital audio output separately to a receiver that might not be able to pass through or process the 4K HDR.

Yes. Its' sad.
Streaming has yet to match the audio and video quality of physical media.
Video to some extent may be okay, but audio is just garbage from streaming compared to physical media.

This looks like a good price for what reviews say is a good value. Only has HDR10 support, and I'm too ignorant to know if that matters to 99% of us.
I'm currently using the old XB1S for 4K disc watching. Does anyone know if this is worth upgrading to?

No wifi and no Dolby Vision support are probably why this is so cheap. I think I'll pass.

i guess this is the evolution of the ubk80 but smaller (more comparable in size to the common sony ubp-x700, but yeah lacking dolby vision (available on the ubkm9/ubk90/etc. models) is a pass for me. good deal otherwise though, on a new, dedicated 4k player!

Still a big market for physical, may lessen but never go away permanently.

Where do people buy or rent discs nowadays? I would like to watch movies on blu-ray but don't want piles of plastic discs building up in my apt.

What do people do with them?
I think Amazon will sell the most movies/shows since bestbuy will remove all physical discs from their stores. Unless you still able to buy online at their website… as far as benefits for owning movies/shows is, Physical will always be superior when it comes to actual high definition and better sound, compared to streaming services. Plus you own it and not having to search for that specific show/movie when it gets removed from streaming.

Not sure where you're from, but I would check your local library.

Rural Iowan here,

Redbox is very relevant. Huge fan of disc over digital, as my only legitimate option for "high speed" internet promotes 3MBPS..!! Not a typo there, 3MBPS Max for high speed! Satellite could be an option but couldn't deal with the lag for gaming.

Mofi LTE is the best I've found.

Back on topic, Walmart and dollar general have Redbox with good rotating titles, and not everyone is privileged to have quality internet available at a reasonable price. The 3MBPS service available is $40/mo.

Dolby Vision is the gold standard. It is noticeably better than HDR10/HDR10+, but if you haven't seen it, just don't let yourself see it if you buy this.

Omg no way, is that the only place to buy physical disks.
