Yes whole peppercorns last forever. But peppers are not native to Americas. It originated in India. The spice trade dated more than a millennium before Columbus.
Edit
Just to add. Columbus found something. He insisted it was black pepper. Now it is known as allspice Or Jamaica pepper.

Whole peppercorns are remarkably shelf stable, easily lasting 3-4 years which you should find reflected in the Best By date.
Carefully storing cool, dry, dark can last years longer, even as they age they don't "stale" but will simply temper the flavor becoming milder, but that's about it.
On the contrary, buying ground pepper can leave you with flavorless sawdust after just a few months.
i myself have bought this pepper from amazon for 8-10 many a year ago and i also bought a grinder for 16-20 $ BUT it broke and does nothing so i wised up and smash the pepper with glass jars. i recommend a mortar and petal if you want something fancy.
Edit: nevermind, was gonna link it, but guess shrinkflatjon hit that item since I last bought it. It's now only 1.75lbs.
