Experience greater power, range, and speed. With an internal and external lithium ion battery, ES4-800 has a top speed of nearly 15.5 mph and a range of up to 28 miles. The bar for high-performance e-scooters has been raised.

Kers/12 Freewheel and setting strong in app killed my scooter just now.

Going 19-20mph on flat terrain I used the electric brake and heard a grinding noise. Turned it off and then on and it doesnt go away even when not using the brake.

Seems to be that I fried the control board based on quick research.

I may be able to repair a "track" or mosfet.

Fyi: check that it's set to weak under the app or try a different configuration.

Edit: swapped the complete stem (handles, stem, batteries, control board etc) from another scooter to the bad scooter and it worked fine.

So the problem is in fact something to do with the control board.
Received the dash from Amazon yesterday and used it with my second scooter and it looks like that scooter has a failed battery - getting error code 19. Disassembled the external battery, reseated it a few times, and nothing. In reading the forums, sounds like it's not worth the hassle/effort and I'm going to RMA this with Walmart or to Allstate/Squaretrade for a refund.

I pulled out the dash and then put it into my first scooter, was able to get things working just fine with the app (I was unable to connect with the existing dash). I'm debating bumping up the speed to around 20mph.

I'm wanting to use the prescribed steps above in creating a custom firmware, but I'm hesitant to cause any failures. Big question is why the KERS/12 freewheel setting and the No Kers settings to unchecked?

Did you by chance just try the ES4 preset? Any thoughts if so?

Thank you.

Can you leave the charger on it all the time? Or would that be bad?

Got the same idea. Bought this pneumatic wheel for the rear to soften out the bumps.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CCND0AO
It fits nicely in the wheel well but I'll need to trim 4 mm off each side of the rear axle bushing. Either that or 3d print one.

Is it time to invest in a 3d printer?
No 3d printer for me this year. Already spent too much from other slickdeals. I did find this spacer that works quite well and cost less than $1 after tax.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/204276565

This spacer fits almost perfectly except the inner diameter is a bit small. I use a 3/8" drill bit to expand the inner diameter enough so that it slides onto the axle. A 25/64 in. or a 10mm bit would have worked better but I used what I had.

As for the ride quality. I took it for a short two block ride and it felt smoother. I would have rode longer but weather here is <40°F. Do I recommended it? Yes, if you have some time and ~$25 to spend.

Looking for a boost like others of the low end torque. Is that a dashboard replacement and reflash? I have Bluetooth working on mine but I'm not too keen on clipping or soldering things to the dash. Remove and replacement with some hacking will suffice.

Thanks for the info. Besides the tire and spacer, anything else do I need to buy for this mod, eg axle and the bushing?

I did try the stock ES4 preset but felt it was lacking torque for me at 240lbs.

Without knowing I somehow switched the KERS (energy recycle) setting to Strong in the Segway app. All the kinetic energy from me going 20mph was dumped into the little circuit board within seconds and it fried something.

So now on the other scooters I'll make sure to leave it on the weak setting. If I'm going over 15mph I'll lightly use the front brake and the rear brake. Sometimes I lightly tap the brake, then coast, then repeat to get under 15mph. When I'm under 15 I use the brake normally.

In an emergency situation you SHOULD be fine slamming down the front brake when under the weak setting. But I'm just more mindful now that I saw the failure.

As for disabling Kers this is the notice on the site:"Disabling KERS using the "KERS min speed" patch might result in failure of the control board and in injuries caused by strong braking.

Setting KERS on Strong provides too much current and can burn a MOSFET or a track."

Thank you and this explains what may have happened to you based on your suggested settings. I'll create a firmware and use the default ES4 and then bump the speed up - no other changes. I'm hoping to get 20mph and keep things there. I'm 195lbs with a few hills around here.

For those waiting for my update with an OEM dashboard, here it is.

Those who purchased an aftermarket dash could not update the BMS. but had access to all other retail functions, with an OEM dash, I was able to update the BMS (I believe the latest is 1.4.9?). Also, someone gave me a great tip, but wanted to confirm it on my end, if you can borrow an OEM dash from someone, you can update everything and then change back to your previous dash (if you were lucky to get a BT enabled one), all retail functions will still remain on the scooter.
I replaced the dash with Amazon $25 one, was able to update firmware to 1.6.2, and was able to change serial number using Xiaomi flasher. Speed now goes up to 22 mph and regained full functionality/features with app.

Can I go back to my stock dash that came with it after using the non OEM or does that only work after flashing with OEM?

What tool and size do I need to buy to take off the back wheel? The L tool that comes with the scooter doesn't fit all of the bits.

It's worth a shot, I don't see why it wouldn't work. I purchased an OEM one because others had issues updating the BMS when using an aftermarket one.
