Seagate Exos 16TB Enterprise HDD X18 SATA 6Gb/s 512e/4Kn 7200 RPM 256MB Cache 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (ST16000NM000J). $299.99 - $40 off w/ promo code EPE57, limited offer for up to 5 drives. Newegg.

Have been waiting for a drop in price for my new NAS for some time and this seems to be slightly above historical prices and comparable to recent pricing for refurbished drives but is NEW with 5 years warranty.

FYI, the Seagate external 18TB on Seagate.com is currently $220, but you can get it for $198 using the 10% discount code, and it contains an EXOS drive inside.

Of course, there's downside to going this route because of a CONSIDERABLY shorter warranty period and if it fails you will likely get a refurbished external drive from Seagate, while this one from Newegg should entitle you to a new EXOS if it fails.

Not saying that external drive is the right choice for every person, but it may be worth considering if you're in the market for a drive like this.

Great deal btw, thanks for posting OP 🤓

How do you know 18TB are using EXOS? 26 TB external are also on sale for $249. In the market for one and curious which one is better quality.

I knew they had been shipping with EXOS just by keeping on top of comments in Seagate threads, but I actually ordered some last week and got them yesterday and can confirm they are EXOS.

26TB external is guaranteed to be a Barracuda HAMR. If you're using it for cold storage it's likely up to the task and would be a better value, but for my server needs I only want EXOS so I wouldn't even consider that 26TB.

Cool, thanks for the explanation!

I tried buying the 18TB Seagate external drive but the 10% discount code did not work

Apparently Newegg packages these drives poorly, as does Amazon for some reason. serverpartsdeals.com packages them very well even though theirs are refurbished drives

When you say "packaged poorly" - do you mean the new crappy industry standard of shipping in ONE cardboard box, and inside the small box, is two plastic "ends" holding up the HDD?

I haven't seen anything but that for a while now.....

It's been worse than that; drive in an antistatic bag rolled in a small amount of bubble wrap bouncing around in a large cardboard box

i wasnt aware. I recently bought 3 x 16TB drives from Staples when they were available for $200 and those came like this as well. I was surprised as I bought new internal drives after a long long time. Recently I bought only refund or external ones to shuck.

for the record , I personally am on the fence about this type of packaging. Sorry if my message came off as if this is the worst thing in the world. I just know that YEARS ago, HDDs were packaged better. The new industry standard is how I described. There are pros and cons of this - mainly that it is cheaper to ship and weighs less. Trade off is a little more vibration during transit. You also can't stop it if UPS or Fedex is throwing your package around. It is really luck of the draw!

Recommendation is to do a smart test when receiving new drives. If it fails, you're still within warranty. Some people are perfectionists and want ZERO results on SMART test..... I don't know if anything is "perfect" these days. Use your own judgement on what is or is not ok to you.

I was wondering the same, and this is the only one that fit the description+ price on Seagate:https://www.seagate.com/products/external-hard-drives/expansion-desktop-hard-drive/?sku=STKP6000400 [seagate.com]

I was curious what the 10% discount code was - even if people already said it no longer works.
