Was hoping this would be a good improvement from the older M18 orbital but still seems very hit or miss. Really wanting to get rid of my corded one but I think I'll keep holding out.

Much better than the old sander. The dust collector on the old one is garbage.
Better hand ergonomics for the new one and it's quieter.

This is what people are talking about when they say HD hack. If you do this on every order they may give you a hard time or investigate your account, but if you return 2-3 items a month in between orders with no returns, you're very unlikely to have any issues. Returns are a normal part of the business for any retail store, and if they didn't want you to be able to return one of two items, they would sell them as a bundled SKU instead of applying a discount to both items the way that they do. I believe they do things this way to get around manufacturer's minimum retail prices, but that's over my pay grade.

At the end of the day do what you're comfortable with and don't push your luck.

What is the "fraud"? Returning something you paid for with a receipt within Home Depot's own return terms?

So tired of these posts. Obviously Home Depot is well aware of these "hacks" and simply doesn't care as evidenced by the fact that they've allowed it for years/decades without any repercussions for the customers. As the other poster mentioned, maybe it's HD getting around manufacturer's minimum retail price requirements. That might be the only "fraud" here.

Now if you're returning a lot of stuff WITHOUT a receipt, you might start to have problems.

We know HD doesn't care because when they do they put it as a bundle you can't "hack". They know what they're doing and what we're doing too. You don't think they track returns and know what their inventory is doing??

Anyways, wish this was the M12. I've heard a lot of good things about it...
