This is an L2 unmanaged switch that uses hardware based switching. There is no processor or firmware to do any sort of backdoor. Though, I get it. Best to play it safe. I run a mikrotik managed switch on my network.

I dont understand how the 16 port is 3x the cost of the 8 port. If you need this, it seems like a reasonable deal.

Yeah not much to see here given it was $50 on Prime Day and didn't gain any traction then. Might as well spend the extra $10-20 to get rack mountability and some managed functions IMO. This would be interesting at ~$40 or so, given that a couple 8 ports switches (currently available for $18 a piece) would get you nearly the same number of usable ports.
