Regardless of AMD fan boys trying toot their horns, this is one of the best performance to value deal, especially when you plan on getting BF6 anyways.

no manufacturer is releasing a half dozen firmware updates. 2, maybe 3 at the most and they are on to the next platform.
That's not right. Maybe if you are buying at the very end of a new series. For the last ten years Asus, Asrock, and MSI often release half a dozen or more BIOS updates. Last gen (12,13,14) was even more egregious with a dozen updates for some boards due to all the Intel overheating "fixes".

Here is a motherboard for this CPU with seven updates already. I suppose they might stop here, but given their track record there will be at least a few more.

I pulled the trigger, since I was definitely going to spend $70 on BF6 anyways. I read articles on the issues plaguing this gen, but as of May it appears they've finally fully fixed it. I'll just be sure to install BIOS updates promptly.

Also managed to get a brand new Z790 at an open box price at Microcenter and can sell my old setup to recoup the entire cost of this upgrade for some reason (9900k's are still in high demand, I guess) so woohoo!

I was reading that it never affected the i5 14 series just i7 and i9.

I wonder why we almost never see the non-K CPUs go on sale. I've been looking for the 65W TDP chips to go on sale like the i5-14500 and I don't think I've ever seen it dropped below it's SRP of $240.00.

And here we have a $320 SRP unit for $150.

An F chip without the iGPU. So maybe all the sales are an overstock issue on chips they can't get rid of for some reason. I would have thought the K chips were good sellers, but maybe that heat issue put a kink in their popularity.

Didn't realize you need the iGPU, but the 14500 is one is those oddball SKUs that doesn't go on sale. You want something like the 14400 if you want a more mainstream CPU more likely to go on sale.

I think the fact that they have to bundle a $70 game just to sell a CPU shows that AMD "fan boys" are right in their choice of CPU. It is a good deal though for sure.
Wonder why Nvidia is giving borderlands 4 with their GPUs? They must be shit too by your profound logic

Honestly just get this and undervolt it and it will act like the non k version. If you need a burst of power for some tasks, this can do it unlike the non k version.
I thought about that, but is there an easy way to keep the undervolted settings in the BIOS whenever it is updated?
It's going to depend on the mobo. I know for my Asus one I can save the settings to a USB stick and keep them there until I need them again.
