PS I had one of the early echo power pruner limb loppers without lubrication. I would cut a small limb and try to pour bar oil from a bottle onto the bar and chain. SLOW!. Within a year they had a head with a lubrication reservoir because the complaints were so vocal. I bought it in 1980 and it still runs. The reservoir system at that time was very fragile and has since evolved into a very sturdy mechanism you find std on most pole saws today.

I have cut wood for my fireplace for over 40 years and the idea of a non lubricating saw chain sounds counterproductive to performance and safety. You are going to heat up without lubrication a coil of chain traveling at 50 mph which means the saw bar, and chain will have to be replaced sooner and you will have a more worn chain traveling above your head much more likely to wear/or even come a part. For another $80 you can get one with the oil reservoir which would be more conducive to safety. Please think about this. My $.02.

The one I've owned for 5+ years like this actually does have an oil reservoir, and it's been a solid purchase since day one. Probably one of my favorites of all my Ryobi 20V tools.
Everything you said is 100% correct though, I couldn't imagine using this without an oiler.
I wonder if they actually removed it entirely for some boneheaded reason, or do they just make two different models
