So you have a Seiko? Not an Orient.

Seiko and Orient are owned by the same parent company, Epson. Anyone who knows anything about watches knows that Orient is a great value and yes, they make their own in-house movements. Orient is probably one of the best watches you can get at their price point. Take a look at their "Orient Star" line. I like them even more.

Yes? ......Really.

They have been doing business as Orient Watch Company since 1950, but have watch making roots that go back well over 100 years to the turn of the 19th century. For decades, Orient was a primary competitor to Seiko in the Japanese domestic market, especially in the '60s when they made the thinnest watch in the world and several historically notable dive watches, until Seiko bought them outright in the '00s, and created a sort of rolex/tutor relationship between the brands.

If you spend any time in watch/horological communities, Orient is one of the most frequent recommendations for entry-level/budget automatic watches. They offer great bang for the buck - classic styling, good specs for the money, reliable, and well-respected brand among watch nerds with a legitimate pedigree. And, one of the most affordable watches you can buy with a true in-house movement.

My only critique is that the bracelets are tinny and cheap feeling. But, that's kinda the norm at this price point. There are plenty of aftermarket upgrades out there, as well as a big modding community.
