It's a weird shoe for sure. I own it but I only use it occasionally. It has that standard Hoka cushioning and it's well made. You just have to be careful on your foot placement. It's pretty stable otherwise. It supposed to help with downhill running, but I only hike, so I'm not sure how effective it is supposed to be for that. I would say it's sort of similar to the Kaha or Anacapa just with that weird heel. I see those two other shoes are on sale on the site, so I suggest you buy those instead.

There is a mens version for sale also on the site.

That is 100% why the heel is shaped like that. They used to sell a downhill race shoe with similar heel, and that was what their engineering folks said.
