And from what they say "acceptable condition" stands for -- knowing the counterfeits and low quality Amazon is known for with "new" merchandise -- I don't have high hopes for the machine to meet even that "acceptable" criteria. And this is an abused garage sale find that's probably a spit n' shine refurb (usually with more spit than shine).
All to say simply: this isn't a slick deal. This is effectively ewaste. In 2015, 16gb ram + 512gb ssds were considered baseline. You cannot upgrade or replace any component in this machine. Which is a shame, because the CPU is perfectly fine.
The only way this machine is a "deal" is if you have exceptionally minimal requirements, super small budget (and if that's the case, why a mac?), and high risk tolerance given the relative poor condition + short warranty. How do the kids say it: "the juice isn't worth the squeeze"?
There was a sale on SD recently for M1 Macbook Air with 16gb ram + 1tb ssd, with a 1 year "All States" warranty -- for $500. Which is arguably a far better deal.

In other words, more capable machines for less money.
And many of these Dell machines have upgradable parts -- you can swap/add more memory and storage. You can give them a second, even third lease on life. Saving it from the landfill of ewaste. Isn't that greener than Apple's "you can't upgrade anything" policy?

This is a $300 laptop and 8gb ram is absolutely fine for general productivity. Plus, if you ever owned an M-series MacBook you'd know that macOS handles ram differently and more efficiently than a windows laptop. This is a well documented fact. Again, there's no other laptop at this price that offers better screen, build, speakers, keyboard and processor. The only two small caveats are the RAM and storage, but understandable at this price.

ignore him. he's a well known troll across multiple threads preaching the same things over and over. not worth the time and effort to respond to.
I've always felt and clearly communicated that underperforming laptops aren't a slick deal. And clearly stating specifically what makes these machines underperforming....in this case, the ram and ssd.
I've also said that decently specced machines are potentially an excellent value. Apple's hardware is typically top notch -- very good CPUs, excellent trackpad, very good keyboard, and at an entry-level pricepoint -- you're getting a gorgeous 16:10 IPS highDPI (~2.5K+) display.
It's just that the company that prides itself for being green with not including stickers, not including the full length power cable, not including a phone charger, using minimalist cardboard boxes....simply plum forgot to make their components replaceable. Which would be the #1 way to prevent early onset of ewaste-itis.
But nah, that's called "being a troll" in your opinion. Pointing out the uncomfortable truth of the situation is...well, uncomfortable. Can't have that, now can we? Gotta punish and admonish that behavior.
