I've purchased 50+ Refurbished drives from goHardDrive and ServerPartDeals and all have been reset to zero after testing and if you look, they sell 3 tiers of drives 0 bad sectors, up to10 bad sectors which is what this drive is and they also sell some up to 100 bad sectors on some drives.
If you look at the second picture in the listing, they even give you a good idea of what the power on time and how many times the disks powered on and off before they reset the smart. That is probably about the average power on time for this batch of disks they are selling.

Not exactly accurate. This is only on the higher end (+ series) released in 2025 and newer.

Always check the synology compatibility list. Several Toshiba enterprise models are supported.

so what do you gain for $20 and 0 bad sectors (other than the obvious)? https://www.ebay.com/itm/16768314...W8SKSRD1VY

Less than < 10 Bad Sector is a bit iffy at this price. Appreciate goHardDrive's 5 year warranty due to which I'd always prefer to buy from them. But that doesn't solve the annoyance of failing drives and having to mail them back, wait for a replacement, rebuild arrays, etc which is why a drive with bad sectors to begin with makes me hesitate despite needing drives at the moment to expand my storage

The bad sectors could be nothing to worry about or it could be a sign of a generally failing drive. The "Passed Full Sector-by-Sector Test" hedges some of that but I'd still be uneasy about the drive failing for the first few weeks/months before I'd fully trust it.

Where can I find $250 for 2? Or was it just a hypothetical statement?

Is my Synology gonna freak the flip out if there's 10 bad sectors on it already, or can I tell it to chill until 11 are found or something?

Wrong on both accounts. Synology won't accept the drive, since they've changed their policy -- you must have Synology-branded drives.

For now, that could easily change in one of their "mandatory" DSM upgrades.

What I've discovered with these larger drives is, if the drive doesn't suffer infant death what happens is the drive marks those sectors permanently bad uses spares and then the drive is fine after that. That's why you have to run SMART extended tests from time to time. The big downside to drives this size it takes almost 24 hours to run that test...

The $20 more drive seems to be new, right?
"Certified Refurbished HDD, 0 Power Hour, 0 Bad Sector, 100% Health - 5 Year Warranty from Reseller"
It says 0 Power Hour.

I'd be interested to know this also. I have a ~10 year old Toshiba P300 (3TB 7200RPM) still buzzing along in my PC with over 8 years of powered on time. I would love something this size for all my ripped media, cold game storage and stuff like that. I even still use the HDD I have for some less-intensive games and haven't had any issues.

Edit: In the bottom of the description on the 0 hour HDD says "Includes in the Box: Sealed Bulk Pack" which leads me to believe it's new?

They are not new and the S.M.A.R.T. has been reset to 0 by whoever Refurbished them.
