Overview

Deluxe editions include a deluxe case, steelbook, sew-on patches, key art poster, and a replica of Captain Blake's ID card.

In the frozen arctic tundra, a mysterious shape-shifting alien has wiped out the crew of the U.S. Outpost #31 research facility. Players step into the boots of Captain J.F. Blake, the leader of a US Army Special Forces rescue team, sent to investigate the blood-curdling events that transpired in the original The Thing film. Trapped by the elements and at risk of infection by a horrific entity, Blake must keep his squad together to survive by gaining their trust and ensuring that their fear and paranoia don't get the best of them … or himself.

The Thing: Remastered is a faithful restoration of the 2002 third-person survival horror shooter inspired by Universal Pictures' genre-defining 1982 film, The Thing. Nightdive Studios has upgraded this classic for the modern era with hand-crafted improvements to character models, textures, and animations. The suspenseful and disgustingly detailed remaster reanimates the thrilling game for modern audiences.

I pre-ordered and played through this, never having played the original.

It's.. fine. I'm sure the original was as big deal back in the day. Calling it a remaster is really a stretch - it just looks like it's been upscaled.

I never played the original but tried this. I would not recommend. The game is too clunky. It needs a remake to bring it up to modern standards.

Played the original back in the day. And the movie is one of my top 5 horror picks. The game, however, was a bit of a disappointment at the time. The big selling point was that anyone in your crew could be infected at any point in the game...which just wasn't true. It was always scripted the same with no variation. So once you got to the "reveal" you knew who was going to turn. (But killing that squad mate prior to the reveal would penalize you for killing a human...which was just lazy programming...)
