Noob question. Does it make my insecure work WiFi - given for us to use or phones etc, any more secure? I am always afraid using financial websites. The cellular signals are weak in the building.

No. Not unless you have an Ethernet drop where you can bypass the upstream Wi-Fi. Either way, use a VPN.

Another noob question. Can I connect this to an Airbnb router/wifi to make my connection secure?

Just to confirm, if you can hardwire to your router using an Ethernet cable, you will be able to use this as your own private network bypassing the router you connected the cable to?

Thank you. If there benefit of using portable router in that environment which may support openwrt and openvpn through? Would that make it more secure?

No, unless you use a router level vpn.

At any rate, most employers would consider it a breach to let you plug in and connect to their network with a personal device, and any component company is blocking this from happening.

Just use a VPN on your phone.

The padlock next to the URL in your browser makes the connection secure, wifi encryption doesn't do a lot for data security...

You want a separate VPN service for security. According to the comments this router supports WireGuard and OpenVPN clients, meaning it can utilize your VPN provider, but you would want to double-check that

I have this router for a few months. It works, but speed is not stable. The public WiFi that I use has 300M up and down speed. The WiFi from this router is 80M at the highest, and 1-2M at the lowest. Usually it's about 20-40M. I reboot it every day, which makes less jams. But not a big difference. I guess it's the limitation of its hardware.

So, this takes my phone hot spot and turns it into a wider area coverage? How does my phone hot spot get to it? USB between the two?

You can get 2 glinet routers, set 1 as Wireguard VPN server at home. Take the rounter #2 to your work (or anywhere) , set it as a Client connected to your home Wireguard server. Use router #2's wifi or ports at work and your traffic will be secure as it can be.

Yep.

This thing is a dinosaur and requires a reset every single time you make a settings change, which takes like 3 to 4 minutes to complete. I replaced this with a GLI net router and have no regrets.

ok this is what I was looking for in the comments. and I love the idea of having two glinet routers with one as wireguard server and another as client. I like the glinet routers are smaller than this one
