The 75 inch only has 312 zones, so, what like 1buc40 zones on the 55" ?

Pathetic TCL, try again next year. We demand 1000 zones minimums.

They dropped the zone count on the new qm7 and qm8 as well.

The 55in has 180 zones. More than enough for this size IMO. I'm basing that on my experience with an older TCL I used to own with 128 zones, and the picture on it was great.

A 75in scaled up from 55in should be 86% more screen real estate, so one would expect the equivalent to be 335 (180*1.86) zones, so 312 is pretty darned close to the theoretical.

Edit: After looking into it more, I likely wouldn't want this TV due to a glossy coating on the screen and HDR brightness being too low. Read here for details on the 75in, which should apply to all sizes.

the new qm7k & qm8k are the bargain hunters picture quality wet dream. Not sure where you're getting that information, but I returned an 83 inch flagship LG G4 OLED for the 98 inch TCL qm8k, and the TCL holds it's own with blacks and blooming, and destroys the OLED in brightness and "wow" factor. That said, the jump in picture quality from the qm6k to the qm7k is massive, and everyone is better off spending the extra $100-$150 on the qm7k at this size when it's back to those sale prices.

If you don't need 4k120hz (and you probably don't!), the QM5K is a far better value. It's the EXACT SAME panel & brightness. The only difference is the HDMI board.
