To make them look like "impact" sockets, they add a black phosphate coating, which is porous to hold oil and resist corrosion. They'll show up with a thin coating of oil, and should be wiped down if you get them wet.
They'll probably hold up fine to household use, but are kind of the worst of both worlds. You'd probably be better off just using chrome sockets on your impact if you don't want to pay up for real Chrome Moly impacts.

I have a cheap set I use infrequently and they haven't split, but the oil coating is mildly annoying and if I were buying again, I'd just grab a set of regular (chrome) Pittsburgh or Quinn sockets from Harbor Freight with a lifetime warranty.
