My friend has this and so far, it's been working good. Had some smoked tri-tip last week. Good smoke flavor. Some bad reviews pertain to bad shipping with dents on the sides, etc.

Is this or the Weber Smokey Mountain better for smoking?

The Masterbuilt allows for automation via digital and app control. Sort of a "set it, forget it" type. The Weber is basically all manual control.

You can get a fan controller for the smokey mountain that makes it nearly set and forget. You might be able to get a used WSM and a controller for this same price range.

I have the original model from 5 or 6 years ago. Its great. Real charcoal flavor but automation controlled by your phone. Although the original model had some design flaws, they're probably work our now.

Did some research on this autoignite line a while back and it doesn't look as good as the gravity line. Small charcoal box inside the grill - takes up grill space and requires more frequent refilling. I've been happy with my gravity series, and I'm imagining masterbuilt quality is good on this as well

always regretted not getting the gravity when they went on sale. I'm thinking this will be perfect to pair with my camp chef thats been sitting idle for a while so I can reverse sear or just sear some steaks on for charcoal flavor while the camp chef would be reserved for longer smokes.

i don't think using up grill space or refilling more would be an issue as I truly just want to grill with it rather than smoke.

hoping to see home Depot or Lowe's price match tho for local pickup and get military discount.

I bought one of these a few months ago. My main gripe is that there's no way to choke out the fire, so the fuel you put in is the fuel that will be burned up. Also, IDK if I'm just missing something, but this means that every time I add fuel (seems to be 4-5 hours or so), I still get like 10 minutes of the white "bad" smoke, which I think I'm supposed to take the food out for, since that smoke is pretty acrid. I think the gravity series might not have these problems, since it does have slides to choke out a fire, and you don't have to add fuel very often since it has a proper hopper.

I compared it to a $60 rusty camp chef pellet grill I got off of fb marketplace and I'm going to try returning this grill back to lowes.
