2021 base model M1 14 inch Macbook pros are going for $600 used on eBay. For 16GB and 512GB and a premium HDR display with adaptive 120hz refresh rate the Air is kind of a bad deal with it's budget display and craptacular specs.

It's not a bad laptop by any means and while yes, the macbook pro is better, for nearly double the cost the M1 air is a fantastic laptop.

With 8/128 it's seriously crippled and unusable for the average user. It's like putting a lawnmower engine in a BMW.
It's a $360 laptop, which nobody is going to game or edit 4k videos on. Be realistic.

Instead of this craptacular comment, why don't you share links of this M1 Pro macbook for $600, you're speaking of. Random home-based 3rd party sellers with a couple of hundred reviews don't count one bit.

lol @ everyone shitting on the 8GB and price. For $369 no one is expecting a video editing or gaming laptop, this is in the Chromebook range, in fact I've seen more expensive chromebooks. The M1 processor paired with the 8GB is far superior to a 16GB laptop with an intel or snapdragon processor. let's not even get started on the fact that this has macOS and a solid aluminum unibody. Great price. I would bite if I didn't just cop the 15 inch m4 for 999

8gb of ram? 128gb of storage?

2010 called! They want their laptop specs back! 🤣

This is ewaste from a company that clearly hates the environment -- otherwise they'd make it possible to upgrade their machines, so that a very competent CPU can continue to be used when a user's needs for ram/storage change.

Have you tried one?

I'm the furthest from an Apple fanboy that you can get….
but they seem to be universally praised for their capabilities and the Air line seems to be gradually even getting better. Reviewers all give unanimously high praise.

Link to one of these mythical 600$ MacBook pro's please. Just one. I'll wait.

The RAM and storage are at Chromebook Plus level, but with a better CPU and screen than is typical. It doesn't seem that bad.

If you love putting 64 GB of RAM in everything, it's not for you.

Yes.

My machine is a M1 Air with 16gb ram and 1tb ssd. I frequently hit the swap memory like it owes me money, and that's just with literally email + chat client + web browser + OneNote open -- around 65-75% of the memory in use at any point. My 1tb of storage is fine, but last I checked, the base OS + my essential applications took around 80gb. That's literally everything in a meager 128gb model, no room to do actual work.

They get high praise because of the lower price of the entry level options, as the machines themselves have a fairly capable CPU and relatively good build quality. It's one of the best 13" ultraportables period -- let alone at this price point. Shame it's intentionally crippled with non-upgradeable design.

If you love actually being able to do work on your machine instead of looking at a pretty screen, it's not you for.

There fixed that.
