I see comments like this a lot. Are there news reports of fires starting due to faulty chargers? Does anyone have experience with a charger actually catching on fire or starting a fire (I'm not asking if the charger got warm, I'm asking about an actual fire)? I didn't see any comments in the feedback about fires.

Amazon's review system says this is a frequently returned item. But I'm not sure about that as it also says that it's the "#1 New Release" so who knows. Sometimes Amazon conflates variations of an item and that really skews the reviews.

I looked through the reviews and they seemed alright, so I snagged one. It is GaN so that makes a big difference in heat production. I have other Baseus power adapters and such that have been fine.

I have I think 4 of these by now and they are EXCELLENT devices in my opinion. They frequently go on sale for around this price. I also have cables that show the wattage on the cable and can tell you I have seen this charge a laptop at over 60 watts indicated. I haven't seen 100 watts but I also don't think that I have a laptop that would charge at that wattage anyway. These appear to be excellent units from my experience. Zero fires so far.

Edited to say: I never post on here (I have apparently 11 posts since setting up an account in Dec. 2007, and I didn't even set up an account for years and years), and I posted about this. If you're on the fence, you should probably pull the trigger. If you're not, that's cool too.

I got one of these the last time it was on sale. I was visualizing something with similar dimensions to Anker's latest product of the same specs, which is very small, but this is about twice as big. It's still small enough to be convenient.
Though, I've heard that the Anker I'm comparing it to has problems overheating, so maybe it's better that it isn't as small as possible. That said, I personally haven't had any overheating / performance issues with either this or the much-smaller Anker.

Fair warning 1: all these 100W and 65W PD chargers only output their maximum Wattage at 20V (most laptops). So if you need lower Voltage, say 15V (e.g. Microsoft Surface Pros and Surface Laptops), all of these chargers only output 45W at 15V, because that's what the PD standard calls for. So if you buy a 65W or 100W charger, you'll only carry more weight for no benefit.

It gets even worse than that:

Fair warning 2: reportedly on many airplanes that have 110/220V seat power outlets, only chargers up to 65W work. 100W chargers won't charge at all, at any Wattage.

So for many (most?) people, a lower wattage is the right choice (and those chargers are lighter and cheaper).

Can 65W still charge larger laptops? Like a MacBook Pro?

You assume that someone only wants to charge one device at a time. Given that these chargers have multiple ports, you can charge your laptop, phone, and one more device (depending on their power requirements).

The other issue with your statement is that a 65W or 100W charger only consumes that much power if it has devices using it that consume that much power. If you plug a cell phone into a 100W charger, it does not consume 100W.

The issues occur when you are trying to use a high wattage charger with a high wattage device on a plane. Older planes are sometimes limited to 60W. Newer ones may be 100-150W.

Nonetheless, you will have problems getting an outlet to hold a 100W brick on a plane or an airport outlet. They just dont have the friction due to over use. You might be better off with one of these or the 100W version if it is available:

I have one. I dont have issues with it. However I can vouch for some of the reasons for the returns:

1. People buy 100W chargers and are surprised how heavy and bulky they are. This is true of all 100W chargers.

2. This particular charger has unusual dimensions. It may actually be better when trying to fit it into a power strip, but it is not as flat and square as other 100W chargers

What you guys think about this one from Walmart https://www.walmart.com/ip/376299...42dfc870c3 This brand used to be in Amazon but I don't see them now. I have the same brand car charger and it works fine.

This one is just $11, hence asking.

Yes, they can charge most laptops. Look at how many Watts your laptop draws. If it draws more than 65W that just means a 65W charger will charge it slower. If you use this as an AC adapter, and run the laptop from it while plugged in, you'll be fine with 65W most of the time. Laptops don't draw much power in regular use. Once you start 8K video editing or gaming, then your battery percentage may start declining slowly while plugged into a 65W charger.

Beefy gaming laptops (those large 6 lbs ones) draw up to 140-160W or even more.

Even my 30W PD charger charges my x86 Surface Pro. At slow speed. But it charges it. That's my backup charger. It's super light, so great to travel with.
