The older R4840 appears to be $115 at Home Depot.

I think you've got the models backwards. The R4840 is the newer version but comes with a 5 year warranty.
The EB4424 is the older version and comes with LSA.
The warranty is whatever they claim -- plus one other factor. Your willingness to chase them down to honor it.
I've gotten stuff from them haphazardly tossed loosely into a box that was too large, zero packing material or protection. Came mangled as if you dropped it off a pickup truck at 35mph on the way home from a yard sale.
Took many emails back and forth, phone calls, and ultimately a credit card chargeback. Long story short, they blamed their shipper and said it was MY responsibility to sort it out. Technically speaking, it's THEIR responsibility since they're the ones who "hired" the shipper in the first place. But when you're dealing with outsourced Customer Disservice with English as a third-language...they follow a script. You cannot reason with them. And every "escalation" went nowhere. All by design.
One of them had the nerve of saying: "We reserve the right of final explanation." Go ahead and do your "final explanation" with the credit card processor. lol.
I wouldn't trust Direct Fools Outlet with sending me a brick, let alone a piece of precision machinery like an oscillating sander.
But hey, good luck have fun.
Looks like registering for the lifetime warranty is a little more time intensive than if it was purchased at HD. You need to mail in proof to Ridgid. That being said, for $130 off new (43%) with the only difference being "blemished" , it's worth it.
