What does the average person need higher than 60Hz for? Unless you are gaming with a ps5 or Xbox series x there is no benefit to a higher refresh rate. People who buy TVs to actually watch tv and movies will never see a higher refresh rate being used.

61% of the population games on consoles. The larger VRR window and option of 40hz makes a huge difference for current generation consoles, even if the game doesn't run at 120fps. Just because you don't game doesn't mean his comment isn't relevant information for others. In fact, it's relevant to the MAJORITY of people, as people that don't game are in the minority now. So yes, the average person DOES benefit from a higher refresh rate.

I stand by what I said. Let's say you are right and 61% of the population games. What is the % that actually have the current gen consoles. And what's the % of them that care about 120hrz gaming? Now compare that to how many people who buy TVs to watch TV. For the average person 120hrz is just a number they have no clue why it's better. I can't tell you how many times I have heard people bragging how their new TV with 120hrz refresh is so much smoother watching tv or movies and not knowing what they were talking about. By the way I do game.

The current gen consoles have been out for nearly five years now. Few people are still using them in the US (still popular in poorer countries). That 61% is specifically the percentage that play Xbox Series or PS5 consoles. The percentage that game on any platform is a lot higher. Even for the layman that doesn't understand the benefits of a 120hz TV with VRR, most games are going to be noticeably smoother. If they knew about it, they would care, and they'll instantly know the first time they use a VRR TV.
