Canned sprats have very low mercury levels, far below safety limits, making them safe to eat regularly compared to larger fish like tuna.

Get your daily dose of mercury in every can!
Sardines are small fishes of several species that don't accumulate heavy metals like larger deep-sea fish do.

Anyone complaining about the fish specified as "Sprats" needs to check most other sardines. Sprats are commonly used in the place of the various other fish that fall into the sardines category. This is typical.
As for the price, it is hard to find sardines under $1 a can OTD. Someone mentioned Walmart had them for $0.90 each, but I see that as a 3rd party seller with $4 in shipping.
This is a good deal at $0.80 each, shipped. I don't think I can find them cheaper anywhere else right now, so this is pretty slick.
That said, the water packaged sardines are back over $17, but the mustard sardines are still the sale price. I placed an order for a pack. They make a great healthy evening snack if you want something savory.

Price in water up to $17.88 before discounts. $11.62 total after 20% and 15% S&S. Too high for me.

So if "sprats" are not actually "sardines", how do they sell these under the name sardines while listing sprats in the ingredients?
Yeah, it's pretty annoying and misleading. The little fish from the Baltics are completely different in texture and taste vs a true sardine from the north Atlantic/Mediterranean. Like not even close different.

I much prefer Sprats/Brisling sardines to the other larger sardines from the Atlantic/Pacific/Mediterranean. My favorites are the smoked sprats from the Baltics--usually from Latvia or Poland.

They are usually carefully packed in tins or 9oz glass jars, in contrast to the larger sardines which are cut up to fit into the smaller tins as well as the larger cans. If I want fresh sardines that I'll grill--the larger ones from the Mediterranean are better for that.

It's not a bad deal at about 80 cents/can for sprats from the Baltic. However, if you check SD for previous deals, you'll see that the cost for a dozen of similar sprats from Poland, in mustard, but from a different company (Beach Cliff, e g.), has been a few dollars less within the past year or two.

So, it may be worth seeing you Deal Alert in case the price drops on these again in the future.

If you search tinned fish reviews it became a really big/trendy thing during COVID. I was able to find several people reviewing this exact brand/flavor if you check it out!
