Is this portable? Can I bring it on a cruise ship & use it in my cabin instead of their expensive internet?

Yes it's portable, but you are wanting the mini, if you are looking for something to throw in a backpack and carry around. With that being said, there is an additional $20/month roaming charge and maritime roaming starts at $250, and good luck getting a Starlink on a cruise ship.

Same price on Starlink website, wish they have another discount on Mini instead.
Mini is now almost 3x ($499) the price of Standard ($175) without service commitment, both compatible with Roam plan.

yes..just activate the roaming mobile offer before you go to cruise. you can activate deactivate it anytime. and yes I know few ppl used mini in cruise.btw- lot of cruise ships usually use Starlink these days and take a markup from the passenger

Whats the difference other than size obviously with the mini? The router isnt built in so its not as portable?

Yes and slightly degraded performance on the mini.

We just got back from a cruise. My brother had his mini set up the whole time.

Yes but they'll charge you a one time outside region fee. $200 for standard and $300 for mini. It's dumb as they'll charge it even when doing the reverse, even though the subscription fees are lower in poorer countries. But they probably want you to pay for Roam instead

Edit, link for details: https://www.starlink.com/support/...738a6cae30
Edut 2: redesign app is janky. Had to edit in old version on mobile web.

If you're moving to Mexico or buying it for family there it's still cheaper to buy here. For anyone who wants to move between regions and spend longer than 60 days on a recurring basis (eg retirees wintering in Latin America or Asia), it's cheaper to buy hardware for each region.

just in time for my retirement sailing across the ocean. Just hope that my son and step kid don't get any stupid ideas.

Why do people even need the internet on a cruise? Isn't it a distraction from enjoying what the boat has to offer? I also don't understand the saving money versus the ships wifi. Given no one goes on a cruise to save money.
