Anyone have experiences with BestBuy refurbished? Is this worth it? I don't want a machine that has been beat on.
Edit: If you do decide to purchase, do it through ebay. Bestbuy has the exact same item listed on ebay through their seller page and ebay marks it with a 30 day return window (no restocking fee and only 15 days with bestbuy.com). Also, ebay refurbished has it set to a 1 year warranty included. Bestbuy does come with a few other benefits and amenities i'm not sure are included on their eBay page (apple tv, music, etc.).

It's a crapshoot. But BB usually does a good job in describing its condition but the price changes because of it also.
I have the m1 pro version of this laptop and it does everything I throw at it even though it only has 16gb of ram. I sometimes run heavy music production workflows with lots of plug-ins and effects and it hasn't had any issue. So I am confident this amount would not limit you with video production or whatever you need it for.
But, I'm confused now that there is weird ram amounts (18gb?) and they are selling many MBP that are not using the pro chips. This one has the pro chip and it makes a big difference. I have used Mac books without the pro chip and I'm not sure why but they can struggle sometimes when you need more power.
It would really come down to battery, "Not Identical to Apple Refurbished:Unlike Apple's own refurbished program, Best Buy's process may not replace the battery or outer shell on MacBooks"
I know its circumstantial, but the 2 refurbished Macbook Pros I ordered from Best Buy were almost new. No wear I wouldn't cause myself within a few weeks and battery had under 100 cycles in both cases. You can always return the laptop if the condition is not what you were looking for. I've never had a Macbook fail within a year of purchasing so not sure the warranty issue would be a deal breaker either.
M3 Pro Chip is going to be better than M4 Chip for most workflows. The question is, how much do you trust Best Buy's refurb process and warranty?
Not all the time. Basic usage that doesn't require multiple cores will be better with the M4. But, when it comes to graphics intensive tasks such as editing videos or multi processor intensive tasks, that's when the M3 Pro will do better.
Also, don't forget, the M4 has MUCH better battery life than the M3 Pro.
Pretty standard with refurbs. But the trick is to contact Apple customer service, upload the receipt when asked, and get a 1-year warranty tacked on. Long as it's from an authorized reseller, Apple honors such things.

FWIW, I got this exact machine refurbed from BB a few months ago. It was pretty much pristine and had 4 charge cycles on it. I wish it had a little more RAM (for ML workflows and light gaming using Crossover) but overall it's been absolutely perfect.
