This deal should get love. I ordered the 32 GB version; ample for my needs. I liked the 500 nits. For the physical screen size, 14 inch, I only need 1920 x 1080. I should be able to drive 4K via HDMI if need be.

I think there's another thread on here with the same configuration for something like $50 more that was posted maybe a couple of days before. There were some responses in that thread. I'm actually considering pulling the trigger on it... maybe. It's about time to replace my 10 year old laptop.

Have you noticed any coil whine while using it? That's been a complaint from various people and reviewers online from my research. It's about the only thing stopping me from getting one, but I may just get it and pray for the best. lol.

Thanks for pointing that out. I just ordered it so I don't know. I would appreciate if you could provide a link for the coil whine noise as I may need to cancel my order. Thank you!

Maybe you could just wait and listen for it to see if it's there. Who knows, maybe the majority of people don't have it. Some people hear loud fans and buzzing sounds rather than coil whine, so I don't know.

What makes things worse is I tried to buy the laptop today and the site kept disallowing it. I called their sales # to help put the purchase through and they walked me through a lot of steps, but the site still wouldn't accept my credit card number. They said they'd escalate it and call me back tomorrow (though tomorrow is a Sunday, so we'll see). No idea what's going on. Maybe it's best if the purchase doesn't go through. lol.

Does yours have any coil whine? Mine is terrible, I might try exchanging it. It's a great machine otherwise, I'd hate to return it. I'm trying to figure out if everyone has coil whine or just some units.

Got mine yesterday and noticed very slight whine but nothing much and only really notice it when under super light load while charging. Might not even be coil whine but just something too look out for. Personally its not loud or bad what so ever so I don't even notice it. I wouldn't count this laptop out for that reason.

I requested a replacement today, hopefully the second unit is better.

If the replacement has coil whine, just return it. Coil whine should be thing of past. Likely this laptop is not built well if that is the case.

I got mine yesterday. I noticed small noise, maybe the coil whine that people talked about here, was caused by the AC adapter. If I unplug it, the noise disappeared.

I have a Thinkpad carbon X1 I think Gen 6 or 7th.
The fingerprint drivers keep getting uninstalled or something every now and then, I have to go to the device manager to update again and again to make the fingerprint work.
So how is this compared to carbon X1.
Wanted to replace the carbon X1 because battery life is crapped out and it's old.
Though I love how slick lightweight it is.
How is the battery life of this one? At least 7 to 8 hours normal use on full charge?

So, after reading about the possible coil whine on other sites and being scared to pull the trigger, I went ahead and pulled the trigger. After clearing up some ordering issues, they expedited the laptop and I got it within a couple of days, I think. While playing around with it yesterday doing "normal" stuff, I thought I heard faint coil whine, but nothing that would cause me to send it back. Today I just ran prime95 torture tests for a few minutes and don't hear anything. Based upon what hw360 said above, I tried running prime95 with and without the laptop being plugged in and didn't hear any whine. I also tried it with 2 different chargers (the original and an Anker 65w charger), but still heard no whine. The only thing I heard was the fan going bananas because of the test running.
