If you don't need the extra features from the newer 4800, this can be a pretty good option imo.

The big one people will point out is Dirac access.
With the advent of A1EVO, that advantage has pretty much been negated.
Especially when you consider the cost.

Here is a comparison of the two.

hell of a deal. I got one of these refurbishe/open box last year for around this price and it has been solid. Near flagship level Denon. It weighs 30 pounds w heavy duty transformers & heat sinks, built to last. Designed before the massive inflation of recent years, so comparable materials & build quality today would cost quite a lot more.

$1700-ish at intro, so figure $1400 was the going price after the initial release timeframe, give or take a bit.
Mid 2020 release, so it's about 5 years old at this point
Only 1 HDMI can do 4k/120 or 8k/60. Not impressive in 2025.
Good for 9.2 peeps who don't care about anything other than 4k/60 "normal" video watching, which, TBH, is the vast majority of the non-gamer audience.

Conclusion: It goes without saying that new measurements completely changes my outlook on AVR-X4700H. It now ranks in the upper tier of home theater AVRs. Not only that, the company behind it is excellent to work with. Despite my harsh original review, they came to the table ready to work through this with no ill will. I am especially appreciative of Rainer Finck of Denon/Marantz Europe who spent many hours with me on the phone and in email to brainstorm. He was also the conduit to Denon Engineering in Japan which worked hard to chase any theory we came up with. It was also a pleasure to work with Sound United personnel in US in final resolution and planning of this update. This was one of the best experiences I have had working with a company on a review!
<< Bear in mind this is from 2020; in 5 years a lot changes, but this is still a 9.2 higher-power AVR.
