Well if anyone is open to refurbish, EE has the 3800 for $200 less than AC4L with same 1 yr warranty.
It's not looking good that the $1k new deal will be back anytime soon, at least in the next 4 years anyways.
When EE did this with the RZ30, some mentioned they received a new one.

FYI if you don't need/want Dirac, they also have the 4700 for the same price.

I hopped on this under the assumption OP was right about the tariffs likely nullifying the sub $1k new pricing. I wish I'd hopped on the last sale back in May or whenever.

Is there a way to get an extended warranty, since this is a refurb?

I believe A4L offers that but I don't see the option here on EE.

Can't scale the Onkyo up to 11 channels which is the deal breaker for me.

Not a fair comparison. This can process 11 channels and has pre-outs just to name a few differences.

If Dirac is a high priority, you're better off considering the Integra DRX 3.4 for $570 when it comes back.
Better yet(imo) the RZ30 OB which you can currently get for $799 right now.
It has pre outs,2 independent sub outs, access to DLBC & is much newer.

Bought the DRX 3.4 a couple weeks ago for $570 and its a pretty impressive unit for that price. The looks are probably the worst thing about it, then the 2nd thing that should be considered is the 100watts/ch. I put the DRX 3.4 into my polk setup that was previously powered by an SR8001 @ 125W/ch and it was a noticeable downgrade when it came to driving my speakers. I was bi amping the fronts too...

I reluctantly kept the SR8001 in my system to use for its' amplification, and used the 3.4 as the pre amp. Happy to report this sounds absolutely amazing. If you are like me and came from a $2k AVR from 17 years ago, the units power may not be sufficient. Otherwise, it's hard not recommend the Integra.

I keep looking for the Yamaha Aventage rx-a6a or rx-a8a deals to come back. I can't remember the last time they had deals on those.

Ugh, after years of being in the AV industry, I've come to hate Yamaha... I need to give them another shot. Out of curiously, what do you like about those units?

im the same way.

Yamaha used to be solid.

These new AVRs are pretty lackluster in build quality/ sound quality, etc.

This will likely be the cheapest way to get into Dirac Live ART by the end of the year but it'll still be close to $1000 in additional money for the upgrade.

You also need a special calibration mic that costs another $100 on the denon

Depends on the perspective.
If someone took advantage of the last Denon/Marantz Dirac sale they got the bundle for $480.
If they do another 20% sale on ART release date.
Assuming the cost will be the rumored $300, that's another $240.
So more like $720 for the whole suite.

Now if you went Onkyo/Pioneer/Integra you're kinda SOL.
There is no hint they will be getting it anytime soon if at all.

You would have to switch brands and get a whole minimum $1k receiver + the $720.

To my ears, the Yamahas sound a little crisper and more detailed and pair well with my Klipsch RP-600Ms. Also, I've had an RX-V685 for about five years and I'm used to the app interface and wireless surround function.
