both are very solid fragrances, I probably wouldn't consider either (or any Tom Ford scents) a "safe" buy though, as a lot of the appeal is the uniqueness of them. grey vetiver is much safer between the two, it's a really nice vetiver fragrance, smells nice and professional. black orchid, the first time I smelled it, made me think "wtf is that? that's horrible" but then a few days later I wanted to smell it again, like I was craving it for some reason.. I ended up buying it a bit later and have a few different variations of it (edt, edp, parfum). This one is heavily "duped" (with decent ones as low as $15, which last all day). definitely a unique scent, but one I've come to love. still nowhere near close to being a safe purchase.

I used to own the Tom Ford Black Orchid. It is a little feminine but goes extreamly well as a winter smell on coats and other heavy garments. Not sure if I would wear it in the summer or on a date but there is somthing very nice taking clothing out of your closet and it smells great. It is 100% a complement getter.

Black Orchid is the fragrance that I imagine Morticia Adams would have worn in the Adams Family. This is a better price for either of these than you can find at the discounters. But suggest you sample them before buying. Both are unisex. Black Orchis smells floral but unlike a number of Tom Ford fragrances, it's strong and last a long (6-8 hours) time. And it does get compliments.

I think that most of the Tom Ford stuff is considered "unisex", but a lot of it comes down to what people are willing to wear. I will say the Black Orchid Parfum (gold bottle) is much more masculine than the EDP. it's definitely a head turner, whether it's in a good way or bad way, it really depends. Sephora should have Black Orchid available for testing in store.. I believe Macy's and Nordstrom usually carry Grey Vetiver and can test it there if you don't want to blind buy. Costco also accepts returns after they're opened

I've had bad experiences with Creed as they didn't last long and the scents were very mediocre (my own opinion) I've never tried the Viking one. What would say about its longevity and projection, please?

Tom Ford needs to bring back their EDT. That was the best. But this is a good deal.
