I dont believe you can use these with a switch, they require constant power to the controller. I own a similar one and when the switch gets cycled, it doesnt turn the fan on, just the light. You also cant wire the light and fan separately as it needs the dc motor controller and wont work via direct ac. Thats at least my experience. Bummer for me because i have separate switch runs for fan and lights. Now my living room has a blank in a three switch face-plate.

I do have a wall switch for fan and light, which I am no longer using. I wanted a remote & app because when I'm sitting at my desk working, it's nice to adjust the light or fan when I need it rather than getting up to adjust it.
I would prefer standard replaceable bulbs, but at $50, I was willing to gamble on the LEDs. The entire purchase was a gamble (I won't use this type of fan anywhere else in my home), but as of now, while it's working, it covers my needs. With 1 exception...
I don't like the spread of the light. It casts pretty deep shadows on my desk which is not directly under the light. My old fan/light wasn't this bad. It's the only thing I don't like about it, but I also have good desk lighting, so I rarely need the fan light on.
I'd recommend for a bedroom/office space, but if the light is going to be very important, I would avoid this.

In my case the living room light/fan is a single wire on a switch. I could spend the money/effort of adding another wire for the fan so that each one can be controlled sepparately. Or, I can buy something like this, use it for X years, and move on. I actually have a home depot cheapie unit (traiditonal DC) that I have had in there for six years now and its starting to make noise. If thise gave me ease of controlability and decent airflow for 6 years at $55 it's virtually a no-brainer.
