For $25, I'll Ignore the subscription nuisance. How does it fare as a product otherwise? Prone to failures?

I just want to make soft boiled eggs consistently without worrying about exact cooking times and ice baths.

This is good for a single person, who wants to do small amounts of food. Download the app to an old android tablet/ phone and you are able to start and monitor this. I found using my phone that it works pretty good BUT you have to select know location for it to connect. For $26 good deal.
I would download the app to an old phone or tablet and never let it hook up to Wi-Fi again. I could see the company disabling the software product after a year and making it pay to use.
You then wouldn't be able to turn this on, and this becomes a paperweight due to no physical controls.
I use it to defrost vacuum packed food vs the microwave that dries it out too much. It does work well for sous vide.

At sous vide temperatures using high quality BPA-free plastic bags, very low to none. And zero if you use silicone bags. BPA-free plastics at below boiling are basically inert, and the absolute highest you'd ever sous vide is ~195, and 99% of sous vide takes place at ~150 and lower. A lot of people never go above ~133 because they're only doing steak and seafood..

Yes ignore the subscription. Mine easily Bluetooth up. To test it, I cooked some frozen salmon. I also compared the temp just to make sure it was perfect but it was a degree off which I can easily make up for. With sous vide, 1 degree can make a diff. The point of sous vide is to cook with precision so it's important to add r subtract that one degree when u set up the temp on ur machine! This machine is damn worth the price! I own 4 sous vides from diff companies. It's good to have more than one should ur guest want a medium rare steak & u want a medium well steak. Also you don't need a vaccum sealer machine but if u can afford it, then buy one! It makes it ez to prepare & freeze ur meals instead of using the water displacement method. You Tube can b vry helpful.

sidebar: all plastic bags are made from "high quality BPA-free plastic". The Ziplock type - branded or generic. The reason being, all such are made from Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE, resin code 4). For more, https://westernpackaging.com/are-...-bpa-free/
