Just keep in mind - Home grow lights need to be within inches of plants or else they're pretty much useless.

Are you referring to the inverse square law? While true for grow light intensity these can still be great for keeping plants going while in the garage for a few days to protect against a hard freeze.

I agree something like this wouldn't work very well for real plant growth if it's in a ceiling light socket 15 feet above a small plant that is budding, but put it in a desk lamp fixture and you can get it as close as you want to your plant for maximum lighting. Also the effect of an off brand grow light can be questionable about its effectiveness.

Depends on the plant, bulb, photoperiod. I have a 10W Sansi bulb about 1 foot from an African violet and it's super happy about it. Any closer and it might get scorched. Carnivores do need really intense light so I keep those close and use a 12 hr photoperiod. A large low-light plant like a fiddle leaf fig or areca palm might be fine from a diffuse source like the one in this listing, even a couple feet away
