So , for me, getting 28TB version for 80 dollars more doesn't seem that good. So 2 TB extra for 80 dollars more than 26TB version.
I am using my 26TB Seagate external drive JUST FOR STORAGE and backup/transfer purposes ONLY. So it stays in the enclosure , and when in USE ... stable table, floor, etc ... so heads are not jarred during active use. I used it about 24 hours to load the drive with my stuff. And got between 220-180 MB/S speeds. I also ALWAYS monitor TEMP ... with FAN aiming at hard drive, using Crystal Disk INO free app. When I am done, I unplug the drive my drive from PC and unplug from outlet! And I put it back in box that came with drive, and put in drawer or safe place. Then I take it out to backup/transer stuff to SSD/NVMe/SDmicro card, or usb stick, ... of stuff I'm interested useing. There is discussion about shucking drive and putting it in other NAS/DAS/PC ... and it's mixed users experiences.
Other member can comment about other uses, pro's and con's, ... I'm strickly using this device for load and closet, to avoid any damage to
drive.
It will last me years, if I do this. Also, I have 2 other backup media I use to make sure I always have 3 backups. So if one goes south, I still have 2 copies ... and will buy something to give me my 3rd backup.
