My advice: don't buy a bike just because it's cheap. Too many no-name brands out there that if you need tech-warranty support good luck to you. Also, they can have very unreliable/cheap batteries that will lose capacity very quickly and are $100-$300 to replace.

I'm looking for an electric tandem e-bike for me and my wife. I saw max weight was 440lbs. I weigh 170lbs, my wife is around 275. Since we are close to max weight, could this possibly damage the bike?

I have an LECTRIC bike and their tech support is fantastic. Definitely want a bike with local (read: US) support. Aventon, REI, or Voletric are also good options.
