Wouldn't the DX version be the better deal. Really considering though I don't need any more. Just need a smaller reel.

Smaller than a 2000? You looking for a panfish reel? 2000 is already a pretty small reel, but this is a penn and really a saltwater reel. This is going to be bigger than most other 2000 sized reels.

But yea, I would agree that for $10 more the DX is better option to get the brass main gear.

I meant a smaller reel than what I have. Most my reels are 5xxx sizes. Need a small one for a light tackle or fluke setup. But I'd prefer something lighter. Although still light, this is already as heavy my 5k Stradic. Which just reminds me that I have two of them so that's why I don't need to get this. 😭

Gotcha. In that case, I don't think this reel would suit you well. Drag is pretty weak. I'm all about fishing light weight setups for inshore stuff, but that's not to say you may hook into a much bigger fish than you are targeting.

Also, I'm just not a fan of the battle lineup, I'm sure it's improved, but Shimano and daiwa have better offerings in my opinion in this price range. I like Penn, but the spinfishers and up lineups are where I feel they are best.

Daiwa BG is always one of my favorites along with the Shimano spheros. Both reels punch way above their price.

I think the type of fishing you want to do with your smaller reel, for a little bit more than DX I would recommend Daiwa fuego. Your hand will thank you. But again DX is better choice than aluminum battle line. Although Fuego is not fully sealed, you still get the Magsealed feature which I consider sufficient if you do regular maintenance.
